Laura McVay graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a BA. and MA in English with a Class A Secondary English certification after following her husband’s USAF career. Prior to her husband’s military career, she was attending the University of Missouri – Rolla (Missouri School of Science and Technology). Laura was trained as a Writing Tutor and Thesis/Dissertation Editor with a focus on working with ESL (English as a Second Language) college and graduate students.

During her husband’s military career, she worked as a writing tutor for high school students. Laura also proofread Officer Performance Reports (OPR) and was appointed as the squadron’s Key Spouse at two duty stations. She was given the privilege of serving as a USAF spouse delegate at the European Command’s Quality of Life Conference.

When Laura’s husband took a position with NASA in Huntsville, AL, she went back to school to finish her B.A. and M.A. in English. She has a keen interest in student growth as both effective readers and communicators.  While Early Modern and Middle English is her literary passion, she is also drawn to Drama and modern world literature. However, it is composition and rhetoric that holds my heart. If students claim language as their own, they create strong voices that allow them to both speak for themselves and others.
